Autism Virtual Book

A comprehensive guide to autism written in everyday English

When our son, Scott, was diagnosed with autism , there was little help available to us.    The typical medical professional's response was a blank stare.   You , by contrast, have  more resources than we did.   There are credible sources that answer the basic questions you need to know.

We have located an indispensible resource, called "Autism: Everything Parents and Caregivers Should Know About the Disorder."  It is the most comprehensive manuals that I have seen.   It covers all aspects of autism treatment, including current, educational methods,  diets, supplementation and nutrition research,  medications, and therapies.  I was pleased  with the sections on  music therapy, Autism Virtual Bookanimal therapy, art therapy, and sensory integration.  Music and sensory integration  were extremely effective with our son, Scott.   He sang before talking,  eventually becoming a good musician.  And before sensory integration therapy, I couldn't  touch him without hearing a blood-curdling scream!

I was disappointed in one part, the doctor interview with an autism specialist,  Dr. Sandy Newmark.  I was hoping for more detail from both questioner and  doctor, and more  in-depth questions.  The interview needed more content.  However,  the rest of the package is excellent.

Everything  is written in layman's terms, and very understandable.  It is aware that each individual has different needs.  In autism, treatment is not a "one size fits all" approach.  Each child is unique, and a  worthwhile resource should recognize that.  Another key point  is the importance of trial and error, and STARTING TREATMENT EARLY!  It also cites approaches  proven scientifically, and which are  anecdotal in nature.  I wish I had had this  years ago and been spared a lot of grief!
