The Longest Run

Scott, an autistic young man, writes this poem about running 12 miles and getting lost in the process

"The Longest Run"

The Bruce Rail Trail
Five miles, they said
Just five easy miles
We’ll meet you at the checkpoint
Here it is
They went away, left me to run
Didn’t know I was so fast
Where are they?  Can’t find them
I ran and ran, never saw them
Miles and miles and miles
Sun starting to set
One foot in front of the other
I’m scared.
Lost the trail
Over a bridge.
There’s a farm.
Tell the farmer I’m lost.
He called the Ontario police
Took me back to our cottage
Saw Mom and Grandma
Relieved, all so relieved
Yet proud.
Twelve miles I ran.
Said thank you, Lord
