Burger School

Our son, Scott, shares his insights on attending Burger School for Students with Autism in Garden City, MI

"Burger School for the Autistic"

People wonder what its like to attend
Some think its for strange people
Some think I’m strange
Some think it’s a freaky place
Some think we’re freaky
They’re wrong
We’re just trapped and can’t get out

Visitors

We see the students acting in strange ways
See them talking in weird ways
See different styles of learning
See low- functioning pupils who can’t speak except through utterance

Students
See school as a place of safety
See school as a place with teachers who understand
See school as a place where students are accepted for who they are
See it as a place to make friends
See school as an educational hospital to help students adapt to the world
